The history of Rusthållargården
What we today call Arild once consisted of Flundrarps village and the below lying fishing village Arildsleje which belonged Krapperups Manor.
17th “Rusthållare” (Provider of mounted soldier)
In the late 17th century, Karl XI subdivision work which required some farms that instead of interest (tax) establish, equip and maintain horse and man army. Such a farm was Flundrarp No. 1, the largest of the four farms in Flundrarps village. The correct name of this farm was “kronoskatterusthållarhemman” and the holder was called a Rusthållare.
The origin of Rusthållargården
The oldest parts of the buildings that exist today was built around 1675. A watchtower at Krapperups castle was torn down, and from the large gray stones the groundwork was laid for the existing building. In the old farm Flundrarp up on the river-bank above the fishing village Hotel Arild was founded in 1892. It was this farm, which in 1904 became the main building of the hotel and restaurant business, which today have the name Rusthållargården.
A meeting-place in Arild
This activity was soon very well known and was in the summer a meeting-place of famous cultural figures, among others, Fredrik Böök, Isac Grunewald, Anders Baltic Ling, Gustav Rydberg, Sten Selander, Lauritz and Kurt Weibull and Axel W. Persson. In 1904 the hotel was sold to the family, which since then have run the business - now the fourth generation - under the name Rusthållargården.
